History and Acknowledgement of our Land

While Meeting Place Organic Farm has been part of the McQuail family since 1973, the land has a much longer history than that. The McQuails are white settlers residing and farming on land that is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), Anishinabek, Ojibway/Chippewa and Odawa peoples. Meeting Place Organic Farm and the McQuail family recognizes the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), Anishinabek, Ojibway/Chippewa and Odawa peoples as the traditional custodians of the land in which our farm is located. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties. Depending on the map, this land is under the Saugeen Treaty (1836) no. 45 1/2 or the Huron Tract Treaty no. 29.
