Starting mid -September the varieties are Freedom and McIntosh. These richly coloured varieties are both good for fresh eating and making applesauce.
On Thanksgiving weekend in early October, the Spys are ready. Spys are an heirloom apple and a favorite of those who know them. They have a sweet/tart flavor and are excellent for eating, cooking., pie making, and drying. We have Spys until the end of November, and if the crop is good, from storage into the New Year.
Pick your Own Apples by special arrangement – phone first.
Apple Butter – We make sweet apple butter from a mixture of these varieties and have it available all year round here at the farm. It is also available from some local stores. As a pasteurized jam type product it stores a long time and you can save by buying it by the case- a year’s supply at one time! We will even deliver it directly to your home in SW Ontario with a meat order.
Apple Cider – Though we don’t generally make apple cider, in 2015, we sold apples to Tariq of Revel Cider Co. who made, as far as we know, the only organic cider in Ontario this year and we are hoping to continue to build and grow this relationship. Because, cider – sweet or hard is AMAZING.
