“It is an absolute treat to have sausages, bacon, and ground beef from you guys. All of it is so delicious, I don’t really know what to say!.”

And they are here! Looks like 12 is Gertie’s magic number.
Getting ready for Gerdie to pig in the next couple days. She’ll likely start nesting in the next 36 hours and then hopefully she’ll have a super easy time farrowing.
Batman and Harley snuggled up after breakfast.
Moody skies from last night. Horses and cattle enjoying the little bits of green starting to show themselves...
I had one of those gut dropping moments the other day. I went into the barn for morning chores. The horses had been in overnight. And Hercules, one of our year old colts met me at the barn office door. I was busy so only kinda wondered why Hero wasn’t with him. I went about my chores, but there was something niggly about that thought, so I looked around in the dim morning light wondering if Hero had squeezed in to nurse mom in her stall, and then I wondered why he’d been left outside since I couldn’t see him anywhere in the barn. And that’s when I saw the hoof in the open pen gating. Dropping my pails, I went over and at first I thought he was dead, just lying there neck and head flat out, eyes closed, no noise. I felt ill. But as I clambered over the gating, he opened his eyes and lifted his head in acknowledgement of me. I texted for help, and kept him company, patting his neck and reminding him how brave he was being and how much we love him, til the help arrived. We got him untangled and he seems unscathed from the whole experience.
