A Half Beef (sometimes called a side of beef or half share) is a half of a cow with cuts from both the front and hind.

Buying beef in bulk is a great way to fill your freezer with a variety of delicious, healthy organic grass-fed and finished beef cuts while getting the best value for your money. A half cow offers a great variety of cuts making it easy to create healthy meals for you and your family.

In 2025 we have changed our model from charging by the Hanging Carcass Weight to a standard size and price.  For a half beef, you will receive 200lbs of meat for your freezer for our standard price:  $3000

What Cuts Are in a Half Beef?

It can be hard to visualize 200 lbs of meat.  This is a photo of a 100lb mixed quarter - a half would be double this amount.

In a standard cut half beef 100lbs is divided into steak cuts and 20 – 4lb roasts.  The rest is soup bones, 20lbs of stewing beef and ~80lbs of ground beef. 

Roasts you can expect to receive in a standard cut include: cross rib, blade, steak (rump) roast, prime rib, sirloin tip.

Steak cuts you can expect to receive in a standard cut include:  T-bone, sirloin, tenderloin, round.

In a standard cut, ground beef and stew beef are in 1lb packages.  Bones can be requested if you like making soup or have animals who love them.

How much space will I need in my freezer?

A rule of thumb is one cubic foot of freezer space for each 25-35 pounds of cut and wrapped meat. For a half beef you will require 8-9 cubic feet of freezer space.  A milk crate is 1 cubic foot to give you a better visualization.

How does it work when I order?

  1. Place your order for the bulk option you want (Whole, Half, Mixed Quarter), making sure you choose the correct Pre-Order timing (May, September, or November).
  2. Pay your deposit by e-transfer, or credit card (please indicate in the notes which payment method you would prefer).  $500 deposit for half beef.  Your order will be considered confirmed only once we receive your deposit.  
  3. Confirm your cutting instructions.  Beef is cut with our standard cutting instructions or you can have your meat custom cut.  If this is your first time buying in bulk and would like some help filling in a cut sheet give Katrina a text/call at 519-282-2493 or email:  meetingplaceorganicfarm@gmail.com.
  4. Animals are sent to the butcher.  Our May beef goes to butcher and then is dry aged (hangs intact) for 21 days which helps improve already great flavour.  It will be ready for customers after May 6th, 2025.
  5. Pick up/Delivery.  You will be billed for the outstanding amount the week of your delivery which will be determined by the next delivery date heading to your area or the week of your pick-up if you are coming to the farm to get your meat. 
  6. Lastly, fill your freezer and enjoy a variety of meals with your family.
